1. What does Women's History Month mean to you? Women’s History Month is inspiring to me. I think It is absolutely amazing for so many reasons. I’m most inspired during this month because it’s the one time that the world stops to recognize and reflect on the influence of women, in today’s culture. We are powerful, we are resilient and we matter. A woman is mighty as one....but as a team we are invincible. This is why my professional focus has been geared to building an amazing and powerful team. 2. How are you using your gifts to propel women forward?
Aside from assisting in building the confidence of women that I encounter via my salon and the beauty industry, I run a internship program that opens my salon doors to women and/or men who are cosmetology students or licensed stylist. I teach them proprietary styling methods and business building techniques, free of charge to them. These skill sets are invaluable to beauty professionals and I just want to share the gift of this knowledge to pay it forward to the industry for blessing me. 3. What advice would you share with readers who are hesitant to pursue their passion? Just do it. I know it sounds cliché, but each day that passes is another opportunity that is passed up. In my opinion, the only thing worse than failure, is not starting at all. Pursing your passion can be scary, but if you you twist your mindset just a little, you’ll find that it’s also freeing. For instance, I walked away from my full time “good government job” after working full time as a government employee and full time as stylist/salon owner for 10 years. Until 6 months ago, I found myself trying to juggle my obligated work, my passionate work and my personal time. It was a lot and to be honest I was overwhelmed. Now that I’ve done it, the only thing I would do different, is doing it sooner. 4. How can readers support your efforts in 2019? Follow me on all social media platforms and support the hair vendor that I am a brand ambassador for: Sacred Lox Hair Boutique (@sacredloxhairboutique). Im also a member of a wonderful panel of women that you can find on YouTube and Instagram @salontalkdmv. As always, my salon doors are open to new clients and motivated stylists; however, more than anything, I would love to have all beautiful women support my effort to uplift and encourage each other. We are much stronger as a unit and together we can accomplish so much more. 5. What is your favorite inspirational quote? “Be your own kind of beautiful”. It’s actually the motto of my salon! We encourage women to be uniquely beautiful. Exhibiting their beauty in their own way, because we each have so much to share with the world. 6.
