Introduce yourself and profession to our readers:
My name is Tuesday Lewis-Harris. I am a wife and mother of 4 fabulous children (The Fab-4, JaTori, Zeek Jr, Zuri & Zoie) and I refer to myself as a mom-prenuer! I am a actress (on hiatus due to motherhood), Insurance agent and the founder and CEO of a nonprofit organization dedicated to brown girls in the performing and creative arts that goes by the name of Girls In Film & Theatre Exploring Destinies also know as G.I.F.T.E.D.
What inspired you to pursue this area of interest?
What inspired me to start this organization was my own love for the performing arts. as early as five years old, I knew that I wanted to be an actress as well as a teacher when I grew up. I grew up in Dallas, Tx and there were very few resources for me to accomplish my dreams of becoming an actress, so I had to do my research and often travel to Los Angeles, Atlanta, and New York to take classes and workshops to pursue my dreams, and I had no one to lead or guide nor to motivate me that it was possible. While attending a Tasha Smith workshops in Atlanta, I received the motivation that is was possible for me to accomplish my dreams and I wanted the girls from my neighborhood to receive the same message that my passion drove me to seek. I want them to believe no matter where they come from their color, or creed, that they can accomplish anything you set your mind to accomplish.
What key advice would you share with readers that are interested in your industry?
I would tell readers who make a change in their community to do it! It starts with you. If God gave you the idea, He entrusted you to be the person to carry it out.
What is next for you and your business this Fall?
We have our Fall mentoring program that is currently in progress, and we will have productions to come within the near future, written and produced and cast by the girls.
