Please introduce yourself to our readers:
Zakia Warner, the owner of Hot Thang Candles started her company while daydreaming at her 9-5 job. Not feeling fulfilled, she thought of something she loved and sought actively to learn how to make candles. She, like so many others constantly bought candles from shops and burned them in her home. She was completely unaware of the toxins that were being released in her home and into the bodies of herself and her loved ones. After much research, she learned about how amazingly good soy candles are and set up to make them for herself and others to enjoy!
Hot Thang Candles will make the perfect addition to your home, office or any establishment where you can safely burn candles. The colors and smells of these candles are simply fabulous! Our goal is to make beautiful and amazing smelling soy candles for all Hot Thangs to enjoy! Each candle is handmade and hand poured. The wax is 100% soy wax. Soy wax contains no toxins, carcinogens or pollutants which means it's less likely to trigger allergies. There is no petrol-carbon soot like you get from petroleum-based paraffin candles. These candles are naturally biodegradable which makes accidental spills easier to clean. Each candle can burn for about 30 - 40 hours. For best results, let the candle burn for long periods of time and trim the wick to ¼ inch each time you relight the candle.
Hot Thang Candles uses soy wax only which is a natural moisturizer. The melted wax can be used as cuticle oil; to soften dry parts on your body or as massage oil. The fragrances are safe for skin as well. I tested these on myself because I have very sensitive skin. The result was a soft hand with a delightful fragrance.
What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit?
My advice to anyone with the goal of starting a business is to research and practice practice practice. I have made so many changes since starting my business in November 2015 and I'm sure there will be more. I remember the panic attack that hit when my original candle jars were discontinued and I couldn't find them anywhere. I had no ideas what I would do. So after sobbing and going slightly mad, I got myself together and went on to Plan B.
Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it:
We are constantly evolving. I had to learn to stop comparing myself and my products to others. I am unique and so is my company.
What is next for your brand/business in 2017?
I plan on introducing oil diffusers and bath bombs soon! So excited to expand my brand.
