Introduce yourself and profession to our readers? My name is Tasha Wilson, primarily known as Tasha W to friends, loved ones and fan base. I am the author of two books, “Who Am I When Everything is Silent?” and “Who Am I When I’m Under the Limelight?” In August of 2015, I founded the Royalty Refined Movement whose mission is to empower young women to have a better understanding of who they are by recognizing their worth and value. Additionally, I pour into the lives of adolescents by sharing my story as an overcomer at various conferences, workshops and events. In October of 2016, I was recognized at the 100 Ladies of Elegance Gala, where I received the Governor’s Volunteer Service Certificate of Appreciation signed by Governor Larry Hogan. What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? Royalty Refined was birthed from a traumatic sexual assault experience that I encountered as an undergraduate student in college. The services rendered through the movement help others understand that they too can find freedom and healing by sharing their truth. Writing was my outlet to freely express my emotions and inner struggles. The view that I once had of myself became distorted after being sexually assaulted. Once I made the decision to no longer hide in shame, I decided to publicize my writing into books by sharing my heart with the world. I wanted others to know that they weren’t alone. My books are used as tools to enlighten those from the outside looking in. You never know the amount of weight a person carries behind their smile. What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? Don’t allow fear to restrict the greatness that’s inside of you. You’ll never know how much you can achieve until you try. Limit the amount of volume (unsolicited advice, fear of failure, etc. ) you allow in your personal space during the birthing stage of your dream. Continue to be patient with yourself and the process it takes for the manifestation of your dreams to be revealed. Don’t get caught up in comparing yourself to someone else’s process. Your journey is personal, purposeful and continuous. Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it? A professional challenge I experienced is effectively negotiating what I’m worth in regards to the services I provide. Trying to maintain a balance of not undercharging while also being equitable. I know what I bring to the table and I take my responsibility as a catalyst for change very seriously. I’ve learned from past experiences that charging too little while doing a substantial amount of work is exhausting and demoralizing. My Bishop told me that in order for my business to grow, I have to create a standard and value that standard. "Those who are willing to meet my standard and respect it are my people. Those who want me to compromise my standard because they’re uncomfortable with my value, are not my people."
What is next for your brand/business in 2017? I want to be more intentional with speaking at conferences on a consistent basis, particularly on the college level and at women’s groups. The previous opportunities that I have had with speaking at monthly meetups for high school students and religious organizations have been enlightening for me. I love sharing my experiences with an audience who can benefit from the messages of my books, but more importantly from my life. Additionally, I want to revisit radio appearances where I am able to share my story with an audience beyond my natural reach. With the Royalty Refined Movement, I am really big on networking and building partnerships with other organizations who have similar interest. Lastly, I have been working on a project since March in which I am truly excited about. I have always been ambitious and a goal-getter, never wanting to be boxed in or identifiable as one-dimensional. This project will definitely show a different layer of who I am as a businesswoman. The project will be revealed publicly within the next few months and I can’t wait to share it with everyone. Stay Tuned! How can readers connect with you online and through social media?
