Please introduce yourself to readers:
I am Tamika Washington, of Columbia, South Carolina, founder/CEO of Converspace and Start Up Strategist helping entrepreneurs and business owners start and grow their businesses through work space solutions, virtual office solutions, and business consulting. As a wife and mom of two toddlers, I enjoy connecting with other mompreneurs and women in business for tips, encouragement, and collaboration. I'm the author of The Busy Woman's Guide to Faith and am currently working on a new book project at this time. When I'm not focused on helping clients, I'm using my gifts and skills to assist at church, New Beginnings Outreach Ministries International and spending much time with my family.
What inspired you to pursue your passions:
I was inspired by the line of entrepreneurs in my family BUT I wanted more freedom, family time, and wanted to have greater impact on those I'm called to serve in the marketplace.
Any advice for someone that is considering a similar path as an entrepreneur?
For anyone considering the path of entrepreneurship, you need to know three things:
1. Know your numbers. Know how much it takes to operate your business, how much it costs to acquire customers, how much revenue you will make, how much profit you can make.
2. Know your target because you can't serve everyone or else you'll end up serving no one. As much as we say it, new business owners still try to make everyone their clients.
3. Know your MVP-Mission, Vision, and Purpose. This is OFTEN overlooked when starting a business because people feel its not important. However, knowing your MVP will guide the decisions you make, helps you focus on your target and who you serve, creates a compelling pitch, and impacts your bottomline.
Share the most exciting moment in your journey so far:
The most exciting moment in my journey was finding out that I would have no longer have to work a 9-5 job. So I know some people are like, that's not exciting. I had time to prep internally within our business so we hired two staff members and have been working behind the scenes to organize the structure of our business. Because I now have time, we have new services and products that we are able to launch. Additionally, I have the freedom I've dreamed of, which allows me to be more strategic with business operations and using my time to do things I enjoy.
What is next for you in 2021?
In these last three months, I'll be launching my next author project and a program to support entrepreneurs through mentoring and coaching. Much of my experience in business-pivots, financial ups and downs, mindset shifts, partnerships, client acquisition, etc- has allowed me to document the processes and create a program to ensure that businesses are started and growing successfully in clients, revenue, and impact.
