Please introduce yourself and business:
My name is Sonja Hunt, and I am the owner of glAze. I possess an extensive background in Corporate America and HR Management. In 2019, I decided to focus on what I refer to as my “Me Movement” following a reduction in force. I’ve created some of my own jewelry for as long as I can remember. That eventually led to creating pieces for friends and family and furthering my skills in jewelry design
What inspired you to pursue this area of interest?
glAze established in 2016, is an online boutique featuring men and women’s bold minimalist jewelry. I decided to pursue my lifelong passion for jewelry and design following encouragement from friends and family and the final nudge nudge from my sons! My original designs have been worn by actresses, musicians...and most importantly...You! When I design, I’m truly in my zone and will not take a piece to production or release without first testing it myself! I too curate and have established partnerships with manufacturers worldwide. So, yes I spoil myself and have worn every design I present to you! When visiting the boutique you will notice naming conventions are based upon jazz artist both past and present. This is how I get to fuse my appreciation and love for jazz!
Any advice you can share with women just getting started on a similar purpose pursuit?
My advise to all women especially those just getting started on a similar purpose pursuit is to be your authentic self! You must be bold and vigilant in your pursuit to first discover yourself before you share it with anyone else! Don’t apologize or suppress who you are for anyone! You’ll find balance. This is your me movement! Never let fear conquer because if you dream of it you have the power to bring it to fruition! Importantly, don’t surround yourself with Mignons or those that seek to share the spotlight! That’s not real support and when things go left they’re nowhere to be found and your left with the remnants of those people and their actions and behaviors. Recognize genuine support, be thankful and take it! Lastly, age is irrelevant...Just go for it!!
What is next for you in 2020?
I intend to conclude 2020 having helped over 50 female entrepreneurs! Just by supporting their business, providing and sharing business services and tools to those unable to acquire them during these times and to establish glAze Cares to motivate, provide inspiration and resources to young entrepreneurs! This is our future and if we don’t water the seeds they will not grow nor produce fruit!
