Introduce yourself and profession to our readers: I am Shanna A. Jefferson. I hail from Allendale, SC graduating in 2002 from Allendale-Fairfax High School. Upon graduation, I matriculated to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill earning my Bachelors of Public Policy and Master of Social Work degrees. Currently, I am a Doctor of Social Work candidate at Capella University. Professionally, I am a Psychotherapist, Life Coach, Business Consultant, Author, Blogger, Speaker, Clinical Supervisor, and Business Owner. As of February 25, I will celebrate five years as the Owner and CEO of my mental health agency, Destination Greatness. My life motto is “For to whom much is given, of him much shall be required”. With that being said, my primary purpose and passion in life is to serve as an agent of change. I haven’t been fed with a silver spoon in the traditional sense of the saying. However, I’ve been blessed with the silver spoon filled with grace, gratitude, humility, integrity, faith, service, divine connections, and the spirit of greatness. What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? I’ve always been an entrepreneur primarily stemming from the hustler mentality embedded in me by my Father, Mr. George M. Jefferson. Upon retiring as an educator following thirty-three years of service, my Father hustled to support his family. He became the watermelon man, tapeman, peachman…you name it! I have vivid memories of essentially going door to door with my Father as he got his hustle on. Furthermore, my greatest lessons and values in life stem from my humble upbringing.
What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? The power of believing in you, having faith, demonstrating perseverance, never giving up, stepping out of your comfort zone, and giving credit to the Most High is life-changing. Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it: One of the challenges I’ve endured during my early years in business pertains to being consumed by the business. I’ve overcome this challenge by commencing the process of branding myself beyond my business as well as seeking the expertise of various consultants. Furthermore, I’ve utilized the tools from my book, 33 Tools For Success, to propel me to the next level of Greatness. What is next for your brand/business in 2018? I’m immensely grateful for the opportunities and blessings that will manifest in 2018! On January 1, I will be a featured co-author, along with over 30 amazing women, in the book Glambitious Guide to Greatness powered by Glambitious. On February 25, I will celebrate five years as owner of my mental health agency Destination Greatness with a celebratory and informative event themed “The Mental Cost of Entrepreneurship”. And as I have for the last two years, I will release a book on my 34th birthday on May 15. On October 13, I anticipate hosting a Celebration of Greatness affair in memory of my Father on the 10th Anniversary of his Homegoing. Beyond those events, I am completing my dissertation on Financial Therapy and continuing to build my personal and business brands through strategic planning, divine connections, and obedience.
