Introduce yourself and profession to our readers. I am Shanna A. Jefferson. I hail from Allendale, SC graduating in 2002 from Allendale-Fairfax High School. Upon graduation, I matriculated to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill earning my Bachelors of Public Policy and Master of Social Work degrees. Currently, I am a Doctor of Social Work candidate at Capella University. Professionally, I am a Life Coach, Business Consultant, Author, Blogger, Speaker, Psychotherapist, Clinical Supervisor, and Business Owner. My life motto is “For to whom much is given, of him much shall be required”. With that being said, my primary passion and purpose in life is to serve as an agent of change. I haven’t been fed with a silver spoons in the traditional sense of the saying. However, I’ve been blessed with the silver spoon filled with grace, gratitude, humility, integrity, faith, service, divine connections, and the spirit of greatness. What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? I’ve always been an entrepreneur primarily stemming from the hustler mentality embedded in me by my Father, Mr. George M. Jefferson. Upon retiring as an educator following 33 years of service, my Father hustled to support his family. He became the watermelon man, tapeman, peachman…you name it! I have vivid memories of essentially going door to door with my Father as he got his hustle on. Furthermore, my greatest lessons and values in life stem from my humble upbringing. ![]() What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? The power of believing in you, having faith, demonstrating perseverance, never giving up, stepping out of your comfort zone, and giving credit to the Most High is life-changing. In my recent book The Greatness Toolbox, 33 Tools For Success I offer advice for the emerging and aspiring entrepreneur as they navigate the entrepreneurial journey. I’ve employed the 33 tools during my nearly 5 years as a business owner as well as throughout my journey as an entrepreneur. Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it: I can (and will) write a book pertaining to the adversities I’ve encountered as an entrepreneur and business owner. My faith and resiliency continue to propel me to transcend adversity and achieve greatness. One of the challenges I’ve endured during my early years in business pertains to being consumed by the business. I’ve overcome this challenge by commencing the process of branding myself beyond my business as well as seeking the expertise of various consultants. Furthermore, I’ve utilized the tools from my book, 33 Tools For Success, to propel me to the next level of Greatness. What is next for your brand/business in 2017? The remaining 5 months of 2017 will be filled with new ventures, opportunities, and blessings! After nearly a 2 year hiatus from school, I anticipate completing all requirements for the Doctor of Social Work degree this Fall. I have several upcoming projects that I’m excited about. I’m developing a Membership Network for aspiring and emerging entrepreneurs, releasing several e-books, commencing a new movement with my hairstylist London Bridges as The CEO Goddesses, and offering additional products and services via my business entities. My mental health agency, Destination Greatness, has expanded our online services to all residents of NC, SC, and GA. In addition, I am opening an office in Decatur, GA in mid-August. Services include therapy, empowerment coaching, anger management groups, hip hop therapy groups, business coaching for therapists, vision board groups, and continuing education opportunities.
