Please introduce yourself to our readers:
I am Lavonia Perryman, the daughter of Alex 96 and Geneva Perryman 94. A host of the #1 urban drive time news show, THE LAVONIA PERRYMAN SHOW on 910am radio station. Plus the author of Courageous Women...working from pain to power.
Tell us a little about your professional journey:
I've always had the desire and some would say the flare to tell stories. That turn into seeking a career in broadcasting, radio and TV. In college, I was on the staff newspaper. After graduation I taught high school for a few years then I was "discovered". Yes discovered by Mr. Hy Levinson who hired me to broadcast the news and host my very own public service show in Detroit Michigan on WCAR AMONG radio. Then I met another broadcast giant Paul Brock founder of the National Association of Broadcasters who jumped started my broadcast journalism career by offering me a job in Washington DC. Therefore 25 years I worked in radio and TV receiving an Emmy for one of my TV syndicated shows. Then back to Detroit where I now host the Lavonia Perryman Show on 910am from 4pm-6pm Monday through Friday.
What inspires you during times of personal or professional challenge?
My inspiration ... my parents. I also think about what would my late sister do. Then I get up and get to moving.
What is next for you in 2020-2021?
To live a more productive life to include an Atlanta based TV series that I will host come January. I plan to complete my 2nd graduate degree in communications at Howard University.
