Tell us about yourself and business: I am LaKisha Mosley, mother of two grown children, Kaniecia my daughter and Kaylon my son. I am originally from Alexandria, LA but have lived in Houston for the past 16 years. I am the owner of an event management boutique called The LM Experience. I also have a lifestyle blog where I talk about my faith, family and love. I have a training platform for aspiring planners called The Aspiring Planner. What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? I originally started my business as a full-service event planning company where I did planning and execution. I started my company after planning my 5-year wedding renewal (we're divorced now). I made so many connections while planning that I just kept in touch with them. A few months after that, I was laid off from my job and I didn't really want to go back to another 9-5. So I talked with my then husband and decided I would start my event planning company. I reached out to all those contacts I had made while planning my renewal and they all were eager to assist me. The venue where I held my renewal was having an open house and they invited me to not only attend as a vendor but also brought me on as their preferred event planner. I booked for my first two clients at that open house and the rest is history.
Describe your most proud moment in business to-date: My most proud moment was being able to rebound in my business after suffering a great loss. Things got really tough for me at one point and I didn't think I was going to be able to continue. But I didn't give up and with God's help, I was able to come back with a new business model where I only did event management. My business has been better than ever! What is next for you in 2019? I just opened an online business supply store called Beauty Maven. I'm starting a podcast soon called Confessions of a CEO. I am launching a tie line in August. I want to continue to grow my event management boutique by managing more events, grow my blog and eventually have guest bloggers on the site and to help more people who aspire to be event planners. How can readers support your efforts and connect with you online? I'm on FB as LaKisha Mosley. My business page is LaKisha M Mosley. On IG & Twitter, I am @lakishammosley. My website is www.lakishamosley.com for my blog. For my beauty supply store, it's www.stylistsolutions.pro/beauty-mavens.aspx
