Introduce yourself and profession to our readers: My name is Erica A. Bryant and I am a licensed psychotherapist. I work at a Fortune 500, leading multi-line healthcare enterprise. I am also founder of a non-profit entitled, "It Takes a Village Educational Foundation."
What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? One of the pressing reasons I decided to pursue psychotherapy is due to wanting to shine light on the stigma of minority mental health. Society often erroneously refers to mental health as being "crazy." Just as if you are physically ill, you would take care of your health with no worries of judgment, the same applies in the mental health field. It is important to take care of your mental health.
For my non-profit, I wanted to reach as many youth as I could by being a source of support of putting on programs to help them with etiquette, literacy, and goal setting.
What is among the most common challenge that you help professionals/ entrepreneurs overcome? In my profession as a psychotherapist, one of the most common challenges I address is the power of thoughts and words. I believe this also applies in any venture/area of life. If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you cannot, you won't. There is so much untapped potential many do not reach because of the untrue thoughts one tells oneself and believes.
When speaking to an audience, what are the key messages you want them to take away? It is important for the audience to leave with a sense of empowerment. One of my biggest qualities as psychotherapist is the ability to help others find their internal strengths, identify the positives around them, as opposed to focusing on their weaknesses and shortcomings.
With, "It Takes a Village Educational Foundation," I want the youth to also leave with the same sense of empowerment. I grew up in circumstances that statistically, would have been hard for me to become successful from, but I overcame. One of my favorite scriptures is Romans 8:28, and it emphasizes and enforces this belief.
What is next for your brand/business in 2018? With "It Takes a Village Educational Foundation," we are hosting a program called, "When I grow up" geared toward children 5-12 years of age. We want to empower our youth to work toward goals, and build a support system to help them to accomplish their dreams.
How can readers connect with you online and through social media? I can currently be found on Instagram at: Erica_antoinette8. My non-profit website will be launched June 2018.
