Please introduce yourself to our readers:
Hello Her Vision readers! My name is Yasha Sterling, and I'm a business coach, online presence consultant, international speaker, and 2X best-selling author. I rank in the upper 1% of African American women who hold a dual MBA/MCS dual degree. I hold a bachelor's degree in English from Jackson State University and an MBA in Marketing/E-Commerce and a Master of Arts in Applied Computer Science, both from Saint Xavier University. I am a 2020 Top 50 Tech Leader, and I have been shortlisted for Woman of the Year. In August 2019, I received the Web Guru Award, and in 2016, I received a Values in Action award. In 2015, I won 2 Bravo! awards for Technical Expertise and Quality, respectively. Between 2011 and 2013, I won awards in email marketing and website design. I've also led the design and development of 54 small business websites and apps.
My mission is to help women entrepreneurs to create profitable business solutions using technology. I reside in Chicago, Illinois
What makes you a visionary?
I grew up in Cleveland, which is a rural town in the Mississippi Delta. I always had big dreams of bringing change. College was the first step by acquiring a higher-level education, which
helped me to be able to secure positions in multiple Fortune 500 companies. I've worked in many companies where I saw that there was a limited number of African-American women in technology. With every opportunity,
I made it my mission to break the boundaries and learn as much as I could so that I could help other African-American women who wanted a career in technology.
Share the 3 key steps that helped you bring your vision to life:
Step 1: Learn as much as you can: I relied heavily on education and self-motivation. Rather than getting trapped in a pool of self-pity, I made a commitment to myself to learn different emerging technologies and programming
languages that are used today.
Step 2: Rather than wait for an opportunity, I made the opportunity happen. I learned early on that no one is going to come knocking on your door with your dream job, so you've have to have the motivation to go out and create it
yourself. It's the only way to maintain some level of happiness in this world.
Step 3: Live your life! Once you find those opportunities--no matter how small--you have to take them for all their worth! For so long, I stayed in the wrong mindset, and I can't tell you how much it will dictate your entire life. So, when you see
something that interests you, find a way!
What is next for you in 2020?
I believe in the power of prayer and miracles. So, rather than get bogged down in the status quo, I'm finding other ways to thrive! I'm looking into expanding my online presence business where I offer an entire suite of products for businesses looking to ramp up their digital capabilities.
