Please introduce yourself to our readers:
Hey everyone! I am Ty Yanna, a certified life coach specializing in relationships and personal development. I am a Christian entrepreneur with an educational background in the sciences at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I founded Faith And Authority, LLC from a vision God gave me during a transitional period in my life to coach millennial professionals in achieving their personal life and relationship goals.
Growing up as the only girl among 4 boys, I relate well to men. I’ve been friends with some men in my life for over 15 years. I am also a long-term relationship type of woman. My longest relationship spanned a decade withstanding distance, relocations, and the military. We have a clear mutual understanding that we are not meant to be together and remain supportive of one another. I believe the key to getting closure in relationships is honesty and respect.
Tell us a little about your professional journey:
I have bachelor and master of science degrees with a professional background in research and healthcare. I received several sponsored internships by organizations such as the Howard Hughes Medical Institute for which I earned a cellular and molecular biology presentation award. I later worked for several years in a corporate headquarters monitoring the safety of marketed pharmaceutical drugs. This was an amazing experience allowing me to work with colleagues around the world. Afterward, I spent several years in patient care serving in regional and national organizations.
Amid my professional growth, I lost myself trying to be everyone else’s version of success except my own. The success I had achieved just wasn’t corresponding to my expectation of success. I sought God whole heartedly for guidance on my next steps and His purpose for me. His response was to stop looking to fill a role on a platform, but rather to build one. I assessed my personal and professional expertise, became a certified life coach, and pursued my desire for entrepreneurship that I had delayed since my teens. Walking in Faith + Authority, I created a platform to facilitate other millennial professional’s empowerment, encourage healing, and support their journey to living the fulfilling life of their dreams. It is a blessing to be able to leverage my gifts and utilize my experiences to serve others while walking in my purpose.
What inspires you during times of personal or professional challenges?
My greatest inspiration during times of personal or professional challenges comes from God. It was only through faithful surrender to Jesus that I received the strength, wisdom, and understanding necessary to bring forth this vision. I start every morning with scripture and gratitude in prayer.
“This is my comfort in my affliction, For Your word has given me life.”
Psalm 119: 50 NKJV
My faith also helped me to realize that there’s no such thing as perfect! I spent so much time chasing perfection and the next goal that I wasn’t appreciating the moments in between. Though far from perfect, I stay committed to progression putting one foot in front of the other. I believe much of what we learn is in the movement. Keep moving and you’ll find your path.
What is next for you in 2020?
To be honest, God keeps blowing my mind. So the most important thing for me in 2020 is staying in alignment. That means remaining focused, disciplined, and constantly seeking wise counsel. I am intentional about maintaining a posture of gratitude, learning, and evolving.
What I have planned next for 2020 is increasing my engagement with millennial professional men. It’s important that men have a supportive, relatable place to turn and engage their thoughts; especially in the state of what they face in this country. As a sister, friend, cousin and godmother to black men I am innately invested in their development as well as that of minority women.
