What inspired you to become a CEO? I’ve always had that entrepreneurial bone ever since I was 18 but didn’t know what to do with it. Throughout the years I tried so many different work from home things in the pursuit of being my own boss but many of them were scams, didn’t make enough money or I was giving a percentage of my earnings away. I kinda pushed my passion to the back burner and pursued my corporate career because I thought it was the “norm” and what was expected of me. But in 2015, everything changed! After getting married and becoming a military spouse, blending a new family, quitting my corporate job, moving to a new state and giving birth to my 2nd child, I knew that I wanted to be home with her and be completely present for my kids and family; I wanted the freedom and flexibility to be there for them for any and everything. My entrepreneurial passion kicked back in and I knew then that I needed to truly start my own business, no exceptions.
I took my 20+ years’ experience in the corporate world and 12+ years experience in the Construction industry and started my own virtual business supporting small business owners with administrative and technical work. I later became a Certified OBM, relaunched my business into an online business management firm and started coaching and teaching other women entrepreneurs how to do the same. Being able to help transform lives in a positive way and seeing the difference that I’ve made in my clients’ businesses and lives is such a rewarding and satisfying feeling. I want to build a legacy for my kids and give them the life that I always wanted. I’m working on raising trust fund kids without the “entitlement”. Building generational wealth… now that’s sexy! I want to show them that there's more to life and they can be whatever they want to be if they put their mind and hard work into it. I want them to know that they can be their own boss, live life on their own terms and make a positive impact on the lives they touch. What has been your most exciting accomplishment to date? Wow, after almost 6 years of being in business, God has truly blessed me with so many accomplishments that it’s hard to choose just one. Although one would say that 2020 was one of the worst years as a business owner, thankfully, I experienced the exact opposite. 2020 was definitely a year of change, growth, persistence and visibility for me. I was always one to work quietly in the background and I was okay with that because the lives that I’ve helped transform were more than enough for me. However, God spoke a word to me and told me that in order to reach more people, I needed to trust him, be more visible and show the world who I am and he will continue to bless me for being a blessing to others. As scared as I was, especially during a pandemic, my obedience has been paying off. I celebrated my 5 year anniversary as a business owner. I became a certified Online Business Manager. I held my very first 3-day virtual bootcamp back in January for virtual assistant women entrepreneurs in the midst of a pandemic. I hit my first 5-figure month in the midst of a pandemic. I’ve launched several coaching programs and courses supporting and teaching women entrepreneurs in 2020, as well as my new podcast, The Profitable Virtual Assistant Podcast with Tyra Pickett. I was a guest speaker at many different virtual events and summits. My business continues to successfully grow, in the midst of a pandemic. And I’m constantly evolving and hitting goals that have been pivotal to my business’ success. And I honestly feel like I’m just getting started! Any 2 pieces of advice you would share with emerging CEOs? Go ALL IN. God has already given us a vision and has equipped us with everything we need to make it happen. If you’re afraid to go for it, do it afraid, but do it. Life is way too short to look back and wonder “what if”. One of the biggest questions I hear from aspiring entrepreneurs is, “What if I fail?”. But if you don’t try, then you’ve already failed. So there’s nowhere to go but up. Every successful entrepreneur had to start from the beginning to get to where they are now. We all have to start somewhere. The key is to simply start and put your ALL into it. The second tip I would give is to not give up. There are times when you feel like throwing in the towel and giving up but you keep going. You have to have thick skin. You have to have a strong enough “why” to get you through those moments when you feel like giving up. Running a business is not for the weak. You have to push past the tears and doubt and know that you will come out on top in the end. Trust the process and know that God has made a clear path for your abundance. Going through the motions is just part of the journey. There will be highs and lows but never give up. What is next for you in 2021? My goal is to hit my first 6 figure cash year and transform at least 100 more women’s lives by the end of 2021.
