What inspired you to become a CEO?
Quite frankly, I was fed up! I spent many early mornings, late nights, and weekends for a Fortune 500 company in an effort to get a promotion. I put my all in serving this company, even to the detriment of my health, relationships, and sometimes personal goals.
It took a little more than seven years, relocating states twice (in 18 months) to finally get a promotion. To show their appreciation for my dedication and hard work, my new role was reorganized twice within six months. The newest position served a death blow to the career I spent 20 years building. The best thing for me to do for my mental well-being was accept the severance package and mutually separate. A little more than a year later, I launched Destined for Greatness coaching and development program
What has been your most exciting accomplishment to date?
God has blessed me with several exciting accomplishments to date. One of the most notable is becoming an Amazon International Bestselling Author for the book project Leading with Uncommon Courage. This was the first time I publicly shared my struggle with imposter syndrome while climbing the corporate ladder.
For a long time, I did the best I could to become the world’s first invisible person. However, God blessed me with ambition. The more I attempted to fly under the radar, the brighter my ambition made my light shine. Little did I know that experience contributed to me building the confidence to start my own business.
Any 2 pieces of advice you would share with emerging CEOs?
First, do not be afraid to fail. Take the risk and know there is always a lesson to learn. In fact, remove the word “fail” from your business vocabulary and replace it with “challenge.” Do not be afraid to allow your business to challenge you. Your best growth opportunities lie in the challenge.
Second, build a tribe. It is understandable budgets are slim and many essential business needs appear to be the perfect DIY project. Be reminded your business success is only as strong as your network. You cannot do it all alone.
Ask for help. Accept help when offered. Do not be afraid to outsource. Trust me, building a great tribe will generate more profit.
What is next for you in 2021?
Thankfully, I have several products and programs scheduled to release this year.
I recently launched The Success Tank collaboration on Clubhouse, Telegram and Instagram. This is a weekly discussion on how to network, create, and manifest all that God has for you. Follow us on the aforementioned social media platforms and join The Success Tank Nation at www.thesuccesstank.club.
Calling all authors! I am working on a book project that will publish in the summer. This project will provide a platform to women who are breaking glass ceilings and defying the odds in all areas.
