Tamiko Lowry-Pugh often referred to as "The Empowering Diva" is the voice for Women's Empowerment. As the CEO of Tamiko Lowry LLC, and The founder of The Still Standing Foundation, she has constructed a powerful movement dedicated to the empowerment and personal development of women across the world. Tamiko is the epitome of her aptly named non-profit, The Still Standing Foundation—an organization that provides a positive outlet for survivors of domestic violence to shed the shame and despair of their struggle while gaining strength and power. She is a compassionate mentor and friend, an enthusiastic leader, and visionary.
What school did you attend? Amherst Central High School – Buffalo, NY and Buffalo State college – Buffalo, NY.
Do you have any degrees or certifications? I have a degree in Business Management, Certified Life Coach, Certified Public Speaker/Master Communicator, and Trained & Certified Domestic Violence Advocate.
As a Domestic Violence Advocate, what influence you to enter into this field? My own personal experience with domestic violence is what influenced me to become an advocate. As an advocate I get to support other victims by offering them information, emotional support, and resources to help them heal and move forward in life as a survivor.
What inspires you to want to educate women about Domestic Violence? My inspiration comes from knowing that when women are educated they have the ability to stand in their own power. Domestic violence awareness and education can save lives.
Tell us about your non-profit organization “The Still Standing Foundation”? The Still Standing Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization that provides a positive outlet for Victims of Domestic Violence to become Survivors. We encourage self-empowerment, self-esteem, personal & spiritual growth, and reclaiming the true beauty and power that lies within you! We are built on the principles of Love, Faith, Courage, and Strength. Our mission is to empower victims of domestic violence to become survivors. We are dedicated to preventing domestic violence and intervening with educational and therapeutic resources. Our coaching, mentoring, and consulting programs allow us to help individuals nationwide recognize, end and heal from the effects of domestic violence. Through various trainings, workshops, and speaking, we inspire and teach advocates, victims, survivors, and community partners how to identify domestic violence, facilitate change, and restore healing.
As the CEO of Tamiko Lowry LLC, what is the main goal of the company? The main goal of Tamiko Lowry, LLC is to empower women to turn their wounds into wisdom so that they can live a life of passion, purpose, potential and peace. You recently won two awards for your dedication to end domestic violence. What were the names of the awards? How did this make you feel? Back in 2012 I received the Rising In Community Excellence Award for my work with The Still Standing Foundation and in 2014 was awarded the Unsung Heroine Award for the work that I do to brings awareness and eradicate domestic violece. Receiving those awards made me feel like my hard work was paying off and that it was appreciated. Sometimes you wonder if anyone really understands your dedication and hard work. It’s great to know that your efforts are appreciated.
You are a bestselling author. What are the names of your books? And where can they be purchase? My first book is a bestseller and is titled Wounds to Wisdom…I’m Still Standing, which is my personal testimony of surviving child abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence. My 2nd book, Wounds to Wisdom…The Survivor Series is also available on amazon.com and www.thesurvivorseriesbook.com. This is a book in which 12 bold and courageous domestic violence survivors share intimate details of their experience with domestic violence, surviving, and now living a winning lifestyle after abuse.
You are often referred to as the Empowering Diva. What is the meaning behind this name? The Empowering Diva is who I am. It encompasses my entire being. I know that I was born to encourage, inspire, and to empower women. That’s where the word “empowering” comes from. Diva is an acronym which stands for Divinely Inspired, Virtuous, and Anointed. Basically everything that I do is divinely inspired by God. The Empowering Diva!
What would you say is your future career goal? My future career goals are to expand the Still Standing Foundation to other cities across the country to make an even bigger impact on the world as it relates to domestic violence. I also plan to publish more books in the areas of self-help, and bringing awareness to domestic violence. My ultimate goal is to sit and talk with Oprah Winfrey to discuss how we can work together to eradicate domestic violence and other forms of violence against women.
