What is your definition of a powerful businesswoman? My definition of a powerful businesswoman is that of a fiercely driven, hardworking, passionate and focussed individual who understands the nuances of challenge and balance. She anticipates opportunities before they even arise and she has an internal blueprint to her plans etched on her soul. She takes risks, learns from her mistakes and adopts the Maya Angelou adage of " Success is liking yourself, liking what you do and liking how you do it!" How have you used your platform/passion to inspire women entrepreneurs?
I use my various media platforms of blogging, radio, DJing and mentoring as a way to inspire other female entrepreneurs, particularly in my field of music and entertainment. I have managed my company " Ms Hennessey Entertainment Pty Ltd for over 20 years singularly and in a very male orientated industry of Hip Hop, I have weathered the storms of sexism, feminism, jealousy, haterade, agesim you name it. Starting out as one of only a small few female hip hop radio DJs in Sydney I believe my destiny was already carved out for me way back when and everything I have done from then to now has paved the way for the next generation to follow. My radio career has launched every other facet of my skillset and I have been blessed to be able to reach and inspire others through my weekly radio show called The Blueprint Hip Hop Sou Show broadcast on Australia's only indigineous black radio station (Koori Radio 93.7FM), to playing at some of Australia's premier nightspots and functions every week booked as an event / corporate DJ. As a writer I have been blessed to reach and inspire many through the informative and candid conversations and interviews I capture on my internationally celebrated blog page www.mshennesseyspeaksblog.com and finally but most importantly, having become an International Bestselling Author of my first book " How To Live For Love & Hip Hop", I believe my platform for encouragement and inspiration to other female entrepreneurs would definitely be felt through these platforms I work off daily. What advice would share, as it relates to women operating fully in their power & purpose? The advice I wished I had received when I was in the throngs of my early journey was to not allow people to sway you from your purpose. Not your friends ( or so called as you will discover just how many stay true after you elevate), not your family, not anyone. Remember that not everyone sees or accepts your talent and skill the way you would like and that is okay, it is not their journey or dream but yours and the path is for your footsteps only. Don't be afraid to accept help if needed and not everything you do will be monetarily rewarded, which can throw you off sometimes. These rewards are those that you will learn and grow from and are ones, either good or bad, that will make you into the badass Business Queen you are set to become. What is next for you in 2019? I am really excited for 2019 and what I have in the pipeline for Ms Hennessey Entertainment. I am branching out into the world of YouTube with my own channel finally ( Ms Hennessey TV), entertaining a new Podcast channel focusing on the issues that women of ALL walks of life, color and culture endure globally and celebrating the warriors in us all and my biggest project and the one that is making my heart sore is finally embarking on my dream of becoming a motivational speaker to schools and organizations tackling the epidemic of bullying amongst our youth both here is Australia and globally. As a survivor of severe teenage bullying, I know first hand the traumatic scars that are left well after the attacks stop and it has been a heartmatters project of mine to share my story of bullying, how I turned being a victim into a survivor and how the power of the written word helped me overcome the anxiety that crippled me for years, eventuating in me becoming an author. I have written a program using the tools of writing and the positivity of hip hops message that I hope will inspire, encourage and teach people to think abut the words they put into action. And of course raising my two beautiful sons into good men, one day at a time. How can readers connect with you online?
