What inspired you to pursue this area of interest?
I knew that i always wanted to be on TV since a little girl. I wanted to experience all the different emotions and personalities that I was seeing on the television. Then as I got older I saw, heard and was exposed to so much in life but always wondered why nobody ever talked about this stuff. Then of course there was Ricky Lake and the now Powerhouse Oprah Winfrey! I watched and watched Oprah sit down with all kinds of people and I heard her ask questions and talk about things that nobody would normally touch. And that’s when I knew that I wanted to what I then called “Personal TV” (because back then I didn’t really know how to interpret what I wanted to do). Well long story short, later in life I began to research on how to film and pitch a Talk Show. Because there was so much still inside of me and so many things still go on in the world and so many people hurting, I was now ready to do something or better yet “Say Something!”. I meet so many people that are doing great things in the community, yet if they just had an outlet, they could have so much help and more to offer. I have a passion for people, whether they have a gazillion followers or not. I just have a passion for people and their stories (cause we all have one) and I believe the world needs to hear them. I push others to Live On Purpose and in order to do that, they have to Say Something, and that alone inspires me to present this platform. What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? I would share that it is a TON of work but not impossible. I would tell them to make sure that this is something you are really passionate about and want to succeed in. Don’t do anything for the sake of following a trend, chasing money or for the fame. All those things will get you is a train wreck and plenty of stress along the way. I would also tell them to get ready to go thru and overcome the 4 following seasons, but being sure to never give up:
Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it: When I first set out to produce “Say Something! w/Chere’” I really didn’t have the funds nor did I expect it to be this big so fast. Everytime I sat down to write the treatment and add all the bells and whistles that kept adding up, I felt like just giving up. I had no clue how I was going to do all these things in my head. I thought “who’s going to help little ole me put a spotlight on everyday people doing great things everyday? Everyone is always talking about celebrities this and celebrities that…” I had started to convince myself that nobody wanted to hear about “regular” people. But something inside of me said “just ask” and I thought WOW! well that’s pretty simple… and I did just that. I began to ask people around me and they said YES. So as silly as it may seem, the biggest professional challenge that I have ever had to face has been knowing when to open my mouth and ask for help. What is next for your brand/business in 2016?
