Tell us about your work as a Plastic Surgeon and the services offered at your practice: As a plastic surgeon, I offer a range of procedures. I perform mainly breast and body contouring as well as breast reconstruction for breast cancer patients. So lots of breast augmentations, lifts, reductions, liposuction, tummy tucks, mommy makeovers, Brazilian Butt Lift, and more. I also do facial procedures such as, facelifts, browlifts, eyelid surgery, Botox, and facial fillers. I’m one of the few surgeons in the city that performs the DIEP flap for breast reconstruction which is a microsurgical procedure that transplants abdominal tissue to the chest to recreate a breast after mastectomy.
What inspired your specific interest in breast reconstructive surgeries? I love being able to improve quality of life and confidence with cosmetic procedures. With breast reconstruction, I’m able to restore a woman’s sense of sexuality, femininity, and self confidence. It’s truly gratifying. I’m a Lymphoma cancer survivor myself, so I know how a cancer diagnosis can affect your life.
What advice do you have for women dealing with a recent diagnosis? I tell women who have been recently diagnosed to find an outlet to express yourself and a good support system. I understand that a diagnosis can strip away the control you though you had over your life. I let them know that we will be considerate of their time as they often have multiple appointments to go to in a day. I also instruct on eating healthy and maintaining a positive attitude.
Please share preventative measures women should take as it relates to their health: In order to prevent diseases one should have a primary care physician that they see annually for a physical. Eating healthy, exercise, limiting alcohol intake and avoiding recreational drugs are great options for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Perform breast self exams and get yearly mammograms if you are over the age of 40 or sooner if there is strong family history or risk.
What is next for your business and brand in 2018? I’ve now been in solo practice for a year and I’m looking to continue to grow my business. I will be expanding the non-surgical side of my practice to offer minimally and non-invasive procedures to my patients. The sky is the limit!
