Introduce yourself and profession to our readers:
My name is Vanessa Parker and I am a wife, mother and serial business owner. I own several businesses. I own PinkBoss, an online resource for women in business. I also co-own Divas In Defense and Shock 'Em Girl with my husband. Last but not least I co-own vTea with my mentor. I believe that you have to have multiple streams of income and I am making sure I am building my empire one day at a time. Each business has a mission to empower women. I believe my super power is connecting and empowering women and I strive to do that each and every day.
What inspired you to pursue this area of interest?
This area of interest found me. I never wanted to become an entrepreneur. I had a side hustle that later turned into my full-time job and I have been motivated by entrepreneurship since.
What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit?
Stop overthinking and do it scared. We stand in our own ways. We all get scared and we all want things to be perfect but the truth is we are all winging it and figuring it out. Don't waste time worrying and waiting. You have everything you need to be successful.
Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it:
Feeling like a fraud. The imposter syndrome is real. Overcoming it has been a challenge but going through it has allowed me to help others. The feeling that you will be found out that you have had success based on luck or a fluke. We have to remind ourselves that we have a hand in our success. Our hard work and determination allows us a seat at the table.
I overcame my imposter syndrome by talking about it and being transparent. By talking to other women I was able to find solutions that fit my personality. For example, I have a "brand board" of things that I have accomplished over the years. This helps me to see my successes in one place. We tend to forget our wins both big and small because we are so focused on what is next.
What is next for your brand/business in 2017?
I recently (like 2 days ago) transitioned my business of one on one coaching and business development services to a blog. Some might think it is crazy but the one thing I know is my strength is being resourceful. I wanted to provide a platform to provide those resources. I am also launching my first ebook and I plan to publish a book this year. My book "You are Not a Fraud" will focus on providing women with the resources for managing their imposter syndrome.
