Please introduce yourself to our readers:
Who is Tywauna Wilson? I am a best-selling author, entrepreneur, medical laboratory scientist, and an award-winning leadership maven. I am the Owner/Chief Leadership Consultant of Trendy Elite Coaching and Consulting Services as well as the host of the international leadership radio show “Leadership Tidbits with Coach Tee Wilson”.
I am determined, hard-working, collaborative, down to earth and walking fearlessly into my destiny. I love to learn new things and add new skills to my leadership tool box. I am not afraid to strive for impossible heights. I love God, my family, friends, and creating new memories, each day. I am very active in the community and believe in lifting as I climb.
Tell us a little about your professional journey:
I started my professional career as a Medical Laboratory Scientist over 15 years ago. Within 5 years, I moved into my first leadership role which was uncommon at that time. Over the years I was afforded leadership development and mentorship that help me be the leader I am today. I realized everyone is not afforded those opportunities, so I began to invest and hone my craft. It was something I was passionate about. I knew I could add more value to people on a larger scale, so I launched my business Trendy Elite Coaching and Consulting in late 2017 and began business in 2018. I began speaking, coaching, training and gaining exposure which open the doors to other business endeavors that complimented one another. I became a best-selling author in 2018 and added that to my business portfolio and this year in 2019, got into media with my radio/tv network.
What inspires you during times of personal or professional challenges?
My family keeps me motivated to keep pushing when the road gets tough. Their love and supports keeps the fire burning under my feet. I know that my work in the laboratory is impactful as well as my work in the leadership arena. There are many emerging leaders who look up to me and I want to let them know that they too can do whatever they put their mind to. It doesn’t matter how you start but how you finish. You have the power to change the narrative! It can be done with hard work, dedication, and persistence but you have to keep moving forward.
What advice would you share with someone interested in your field?
I want other people to know that the field of Medical Laboratory science exist! A lot of times people are unaware of the field because counselors tend to steer students to the nursing profession or other allied health careers. This is a viable career that provides stability and is very rewarding. You don’t have to be in front of the patient to be able to have an impact on their lives.
For anyone that's interested in learning more about the profession you could reach out to your local colleges and universities and see if they offer Medical Laboratory science as a major. You can also find out more information about laboratory medicine online at the American Society for Clinical Pathology at www.ascp.org. Lab professionals are always willing to come in to middle and high schools to talk about the profession and perform lab demonstrations.
What is next for you in 2020?
I plan to continue to equip the next generation of leaders through my leadership training and coaching programs as well as in the clinical laboratory. There are some exciting things in store through my broadcasting and media arm with new radio/tv programs and more book projects.
I will also continue speaking and doing book signings and events for the various books I have authored. All books can be purchased at coachteewilson.com.
