Introduce yourself and profession to our readers:
Hey!!! My name is Necoya Tyson and I’m the owner & CEO of All About You Event Management, a wedding & event planning firm based in the Washington, DC area. We service events wherever we’re needed. I’m a certified wedding planner and I’ve been planning events for 14 years and wouldn’t trade it for the world!
What inspired you to pursue this area of interest?
I’ve always been a “planner” in all aspects of my life. I started out planning conferences & tradeshows and corporate events, so the segue to weddings & social events was seamless and easy for me. I truly enjoy seeing a blank canvas turn into something so fabulous! I just love seeing my clients happy. For me, that makes me happy.
What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit?
As an outsider looking in, this industry looks fun and glambitious (see what I did there?). And it is…but that doesn’t come without hard work and knowledge (continuing education). There will be long hours/days and things don’t always work out the way that you plan, but it is so rewarding - DON’T QUIT. And always have a Plan A, B, and C.
Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it?
The biggest challenge for me has been finding the right people for my team that have a work ethic that’s in line with mine, my vision and my business goals.
To overcome this, I’ve been working with my mentor and my business coach and started
taking management classes. This has truly helped me in figuring out what questions to ask when interviewing, finding out how people deal with adversity in particular situations, and other pertinent things to ask when finding people to work with/for you, especially in the events industry.
What is next for your brand/business in 2018?
We recently launched Mornings are for Mimosas, a wedding workshop series for brides & grooms which we host in various cities around the country. We will continue to make this event bigger & better and we’re also looking at what cities will benefit from this event in the future.
