Introduce yourself and profession to our readers: My name is Michelle Wilson. I am an award-winning television producer/reporter for CBN, a voice-over talent, speaker, actress, creative visionary and entrepreneur. I am the founder and CEO of Michelle Wilson Media, LLC - a creative media imaging company for film, television and digital media. I am a graduate of Oral Roberts University where I received my Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. I joined CBN – Christian Broadcasting Network, in 1998 where I have been afforded the opportunity to travel around the world producing life changing dramatic testimonies, that encourage, inspire and motivate people from all walks of life. What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? It started when I was 12. I was called upon to be the youth speaker for my church. Many began to say how great of a speaker I was. Then at age 13 I asked a question on the radio to one of the guests being interviewed and I felt like I had won a million dollars. Then at 14, I started my first reporter assignment during a summer youth program that was designed to teach kids about production, reporting and interviewing. By the way, our team was the only team who successfully completed our show segment which was on the Arabic community.
I knew God had given me something special and I began to look up to Oprah Winfrey and Barbara Walters. I was amazed at how Barbara could pull out emotions from the people she interviewed. But it wasn’t until I went to high school and did an after school program from SEOVEC (South East Oakland Vocational Educational Center) and studied Telecommunications. My teacher Dean Smits saw some special talent and pushed me. It was there I learned how to edit and write and report. My senior project consisted of me interviewing all of the students in the various disciplines and host it. Unbeknownst to me, Mr. Smits entered my class project into a contest. I won two first place awards in the educational division. When they called my name and I stood on stage to receive my award I knew God had marked me to do something great for Him. I was like, “Look out Oprah! Here I come!” But God had a different route He wanted me to take. He didn’t allow me to shoot up too quickly perhaps He knew I was not mature enough to handle all of the pressures that go with celebrityism. The one that cemented my faith in God to take me to great places in television was when I went to Oral Roberts University. I majored in Broadcast Journalism. I also had a radio show called, “Campus Focus.” The show format was simply to interview all of the Christian celebrities who came to town. I remember interviewing Benny Hinn, The Winans and Dr. Myles Munroe. It was Dr. Munroe who gave me a sneak peek as to what God was going to do in my life. He wrote in my book that he gave me, “You are special with unlimited potential. Never compromise your standards of righteousness. P.S. You will work in the professional medium. Television will be your pulpit and you will reach millions for Christ!!!” I looked at the words on that page in his book and knew that God had called me to a great work in television. Although I was still broken in many areas of my life God used Dr. Munroe to cause me to think higher and to know God has given you a great responsibility to carry His gospel throughout the airwaves for His purpose and for His glory. What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? Know what God has called you to gift the world with. In other words, don’t just do something because you see others doing it. Ask God, “What is it you have called me to do? What have you fashioned and created me to do?” And if it is a career in television, digital media, radio or some other form of media then pray and ask God to order your steps. Ask God to allow the right doors to open up for you and the right connections to take place. And I promise you He will. Continue to read magazines and others internet articles on your interest. Always stay current when it comes to your area of discipline and focus. Then practice, practice, practice! Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it: When I first started out in professional television some couldn’t see the fullness of the gifts and talents God had given me. Either my voice was too soft or my writing was not flowery enough. And so I was challenged with was I going to believe and know that while I was in the raw stages of my profession that God indeed was going to perfect me in every area that wasn’t strong. I can say unequivocally YES! Today, I get compliments on my voice overs and my writings. I also get millions of hits on the stories that I produce. So my advice to you is KNOW who you are and where you are going so that when the naysayers come to try to re-identify you according to their limited perception and view point you can remain TRUE to all God has said you are. It’s only a matter of time when everything will be perfected but guess what..you can’t quit! Keep going, Keep trusting and Keep believing God! What is next for your brand/business in 2017? My Three FB Shows, “The Michelle Wilson Show,” “30/30 Bible Reading with Michelle,” and “Cooking with Mama Bobbie.” These all started in June/July of 2017. God is opening up major doors for me to broadcast God’s prophetic voice all over the world.
