Introduce yourself and profession to our readers: I’m Cemone Glinton, I have over fourteen years of experience in the industry of weddings, coordinating and destination weddings. My Bachelor’s degree is in Liberal Arts and Hospitality studies from the Florida International University. I am a Single mom of one 14-year-old, 6ft boy (Darius). I am a Wedding planning instructor at Miami Dade College, Certifying future event and wedding planners. I started Out of Box Weddings a little over five years ago. Out of Box Weddings is a wedding coordinating and design service that specializes in creating and designing weddings that are specific to the clients' needs and wants. Our Primary services are Full Coordinating and Design. Our ultimate goal is to create a wedding that our clients will love. What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? It’s actually kind of funny, Two really good friends and myself loved planning events and we were pretty good at it back in college. Well, the time came where we each had to make career decisions and in the end we each chose different routes. One went on to become a nurse and the other decided to teach in Korea and then there was me. I wasn’t interested in any of the traditional career options so I started looking into ways I could continue planning events.
Not to long after I got a job as a special events coordinator at a non-profit which was an amazing opportunity and a wealth of knowledge and experience for me. From there I was able to move on another company that specialized in destination wedding coordinating to the Caribbean. Those two positions really encouraged me to move my career towards special events. Sadly, I would have a hiccup, I was fired from my position in destination weddings which really hurt me mainly because I really loved that position and the job itself. Needless to say it was a blessing in disguise because it pushed me to step out on my own and pursue my very own business. What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? You have to stay with it. There were days, weeks and even months that I made no money where people told me that I charged to much and that I was the worst planner in the world. It happens and you have to smile through the pain whatever it maybe. Keep your positive affirmations in front of you and always remember that God is on your side. Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it: Professional challenges are frequent in my business because you’re dealing with people which can sometimes be unpredictable. I’ve had other professionals backstab me and throw me under the bus just to save themselves, knowing that I’ve always covered for them. What I’ve done in those situations is simply move on – I don’t have the energy to give being angry or resentful. I always learn from my mistakes and that includes relations with other professionals. What is next for your brand/business in 2018? We’re rebranding, upgrading our services and publishing our first book. It’s an exciting time and nerve wrecking at the same time BUT we will get through it! How can readers connect with you online and through social media?
