Introduce yourself and profession to our readers: I am Candace Holyfield, I'm a massage therapist, herbalist, medical assistant, holistic practitioner, and now spa coach. In 2011, I became a massage therapist and I opened up my first spa in Memphis, TN and quickly became a six figure earner.
What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? I realized other massage therapist needed help opening and operating their business so I created Six Figure Spa Chick. My coaching program became international within the first 12 months. It was hard to find a business coach who specializes in spa the industry so once I mastered running my spa I decided to help others. I was already helping other therapist who rented spa rooms from me but I was not charging until 2015.
What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? I would advise any spa/beauty professional to get a business coach. It will save you so much heartache, money, and less stress while trying to build your business. Since I got a coach my income tripled (my first coach @theglamuniversity).
Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it: One of my biggest challenges was moving to Atlanta. I had to start all over from zero. I had no spa location or clients and not to mention I didn’t have any family or friends in the city to send me referrals. I literally got on social media every day and invited people to the spa. I went to so many events that people quickly became to know the massage chick! It worked.
I built a full clientele within a year! I worked with Matthew Knowles super bowl brunch, Black Ink, St. Jude, and Essence Magazine to name a few. I have a full team including massage therapist, skin care specialist, teeth whiting, v-steam, and lash artist. We work events all throughout Atlanta and the country. Our celebrity clientele list is growing daily and we couldn’t be more thankful for all the business.
What is next for your brand/business in 2017? I’m focusing on my training academy to help more people get into the spa industry. I was recently featured in American Spa Magazine.
How can readers connect with you online and through social media? You can find me all over social media for you spa needs or spa mentor @queenofmassageatl and @sixfigurespachick.
