Introduce yourself and profession to our readers:
I am Brittany Garth, also known as Life Coach Brittany! I am a certified women empowerment life coach,TEDx speaker, international speaker and founder of the DW Life Coach Network.
What inspired you to pursue this area of interest?
I worked in the field of mental health and clinical counseling for nearly 10 years and I only had one goal in mind professionally and personally. I wanted to get married by 25 and become a program director of a non-profit agency. Once my engagement ended and I had fulfilled the goal of becoming a program director, I realized that I was not fulfilled as I had hoped and was facing financial ruin after the company was unable to pay my staff or myself for months. After months of non-payment, I lost all of my staff, depleted my bank account to pay the mortgage on my new house and became “broken”-emotionally, financially and spiritually. Nearly facing homelessness, motivated me to write out a plan of action to create a business that was dedicated to empowering women in need of support. As I began to share my journey on social media, I quickly learned that there were thousands of women who had similar struggles and found inspiration in my story. As I began building my clientele and having numerous speaking engagements within my first year in business, I knew coaching was my God given gift and passion. My struggle story turned into a 6 figure business within a matter of 2 years and has afforded me the ability to work with over 100 women annually, create a life coach school with national and international students and publish my first book on my journey to stardom as an entrepreneur.
What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit?
I encourage aspiring life coaches to ensure they are passionate about actually helping others in need of support. As a life coach you are inserting yourself into someone else's life and not having the skill set or passion for the field can impact a client greatly. Also, I would recommend that individuals considering the field of coaching to take a course or certification program to build upon their skills. The more you know about the field, the better outcomes are created for potential clients.
Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it:
In the first year of business, I noticed a lack of support from other coaches and a lack of resources available to elevate professionals in this field. After realizing that there was not a professional association specifically for life coaches that promoted unity instead of competition, I decided to open up my own life coaching school for aspiring coaches and develop the first global life coach network. The DW Life Coach Network is a completely free membership for coaches that provides promotion, resources and networking opportunities. I felt like it was a network that was needed to promote unity and provide free resources to advance other likeminded coaches. We have grown to over 300 plus members globally since launching in February of 2016.
What is next for your brand/business in 2017?
In 2017, we plan to continue to grow the Dimensioned Wellness brand in international markets and build upon or corporate partnerships. In addition to providing empowerment and business coaching services, we were able to contract with several state departments to provide community based training and services to women through psycho-social groups. Next year, we plan to create more jobs for coaches through our partnerships nationally and internationally. Our 4-week program for life coaching school quickly grew as our staple service for Dimensioned Wellness and we plan to debut a 6 week program and offer free tuition to 3 students in Ghana and Nigeria.
