Introduce yourself and profession to our readers: My name is Amy Gibson and I’m a blogger, media correspondent, host and content creator. I’m the co-founder of The Double Scoop Media Company which I created with my twin sister Ashley three years ago. Our company focuses on lifestyle, entrepreneurship, music and film. Our goal is to provide a diverse array of relatable, inspiring and entertaining content, as well as to showcase and promote the gifts and talents of other creatives. What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? My sister and I have always had a love for the arts but as kids we were discouraged from pursuing a career in that field because job opportunities were not promising. Three years ago, we both found ourselves dissatisfied with our careers so we decided to pursue writing and media full time. A person who really inspired our career move was blogger Necole Kane formerly known as Necole Bitchie. We really admired the fact that she was able to make a career out of blogging full time, and that she started her business from the ground up.
What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? First and foremost have a passion for whatever you want to do. Passion is the only thing that’s going to keep you motivated when the money isn’t coming in. Also stay consistent and surround yourself with people who genuinely support your dreams and goals. Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it. The initial challenge that we faced which is common to most new businesses was establishing a brand and gaining new followers. At times we became discouraged when our following wasn’t growing as fast as other businesses, or when we would reach out to companies for collaborations and wouldn’t get a response. We overcame this obstacle by staying persistent with creating content and attending networking events which gave us the opportunity to connect with other creatives who had similar interests. Also every few months we would evaluate our company and come up with new strategies that could help improve our brand. What is next for your brand/business in 2018? We will definitely be transitioning into film. We our currently finishing up scripts that we plan to pitch to a few production companies next year, and Ashley is also working on a documentary. We will also be relaunching our web show in Atlanta next summer. How can readers connect with you online and through social media.
