Introduce yourself and profession to our readers: I am Tina Dixson, 36 yr old Atlanta Native. I am the creator of Mulah Cosmetics, a line of luxury cosmetics. Our purpose is to encourage women to create their own standard of beauty. I am also the co-founder of a new and budding casting company called Top Tier Casting & Management.
What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? Mulah cosmetics started as a homemade hobby and turned into a labor of love. I found joy and excitement in mixing and creating new colors for lipsticks and eye shadows. Once I started sharing my hobby with others, the demand for my creative lipsticks grew. I then started getting requests to make custom lipstick colors that would match skin tones and personality. This hobby helped me to discover how something as simple as a tube of lipstick could boost a woman’s confidence and encourage her to hold her head a little higher. I truly believe that when you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you do good. Mulah Cosmetics makes u look amazing honey!
What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? Strive to solve a problem and be relatable, instead of just pushing/selling a product. As a small brand, customers are more likely to trust and shop your brand if you are relatable and there is a connection.
Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it: When I first started, one of my biggest challenges was self-doubt and discouragement. I would compare myself, and my brand to others; looking at what others had, what they were doing, and I would become overwhelmed, discouraged, and often wanted to give up. I did not overcome this until I started surrounding myself with other women in businesses like mine or similar to mine, and I realized they were once where I started. We do not always see what a person went through to get to where they are now, and I cannot compare my new business to someone who has been at it for much longer than I have. Also spending more time meditating and talking with God, I realized that what’s for me is for me, there’s no need to look at what others are doing; just keep progressing and walking in faith.
What is next for your brand/business in 2016? Mulah Cosmetics is currently product base only; our next move is to collaborate with makeup artists and create a Mulah Cosmetics beauty team to offer beauty services to our beautiful customers.
