Introduce yourself and profession to our readers:
My name is Renata Eileena owner of Renata Eileena shoes and Possible Cosmetics. I have been in business for 3 years and my newest venture is possible cosmetics. I am from Philadelphia Pa, and I am 31 years old. In my three short years, My brand Renata Eileena has had the great honor to be featured on VH1, FOX29philly, Karencivil.com and other local media circuits. In addition I launched Possible Cosmetics in September at the king of Prussia mall, where I was blessed to be the only black owned cosmetic company in the entire mall.
What inspired you to pursue this area of interest?
I've always been a little different, I remember growing up and even still in my adulthood being known for having unique pieces. Rather it be shoes or something I had on always stood out. I never was the kind to blend it, if everyone was wearing blue I had on Bright yellow. So as a child seeing how I can stand out really inspired me and I would like to take my creativity to inspire others ;)
What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit?
My advice would be to be AUTHENTIC, be you and do that unapologetically. I can't tell you how many times I've been talked about, for being different, having different views or being deemed as "too much." It got to a point where I was ashamed of being unique, because of the persecution of the average. So I would say don't let people put you in a box, don't let people discourage you because your not like them. Different is good , so whatever you are just be it that's how you succeed.
Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it:
Oh dear, lol I've had several but one that sticks out to me the most was just getting the respect I felt I deserved as a "custom" designer. One struggle of the custom world is that it's not really truly respected in the fashion industry. (In my opinion) you have the big mainstream fashion shows, like New York Fashion week and London, and so forth. Where even if you have the money it's a hassle if your a "custom" designer. So for a long time I got turned down for a lot of main stream shows. You get kind of looked over and who doesn't want their designed displayed in NYFW right? So I had to make my own lane and find other ways to get main stream features because my shoes and whatever I designed was so unique.
What is next for your brand/business in 2017?
I'm working on a pop up shop tour I'm very excited about that and getting possible cosmetics in local stores, hair salons and retailers!!!
