Introduce yourself and profession to our readers: I am Nikki Payne, an inspirational speaker from Atlanta Georgia and I travel the country sharing my story, keynote speaking, presenting lectures and workshops. What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? I am the survivor of the double murders of my children and the suicide of my husband which lead me to years of drug and alcohol abuse and self destructive behavior. I now use my experiences to encourage others to live up to their fullest potential and greatness. What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? If your passion is to help others by sharing your testimony or expertise while making a full time income but working part time then my advice would be to:
Even if you believe that you are not ready, fully through your ordeal or not an "expert" yet, there is still a freshman class that is trying to get to where you are and they need your help. If you wait until everything is perfect you will never be ready. Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it: My biggest professional challenge was learning to share my story with the world while still maintaining privacy and inner peace. The way I overcame it was to always have resource pamphlets during my speeches for those who require additional help, I do not give out my personal number, I limit the amount of personal information that I put on social media and I only coach a small amount of people at a time so that I won't be overwhelmed by others struggles. What is next for your brand/business in 2017? 2017 holds a lot for me. My book 4 Hours, 3 Caskets, 2 Funerals, 1 Standing will be released. I have interviews scheduled that will be nationally televised and I will be working with a few film producers. It is going to be a great year. I am Shae Primus, certified Matchmaker & Dating Coach, author, & radio show host. I specialize in helping professional people of color become ready for love. What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? I was inspired to pursue Matchmaking & Dating Coaching because I have so many friends who are successful, attractive, smart, great quality, yet single. I wanted to help them find love. What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? I would definitely advise anyone interested in my field & especially my demographic to get to know their audience. Although I graduated from the Matchmaking Institute & Relationship Coach Institute, what makes me successful is that I spend time working with singles. Talking to them. Understanding what's out here & what they go through. I am an expert on Black Professional Singles because I study them. I even host a radio show, Conversations with Cupid, giving them a platform to share & discuss their issues & concerns. You have to be prepared to live this life in order to be successful. Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it: Just recently, an article went viral about me that took something I said out of context. I am still in the process of overcoming it. But I am doing so by using the time in the spotlight to share my brand & the good that I do. I have matched 67 couples in 2016; started a dating site, MiddleClassMatch.com that has 70,000 singles; I have written a book for singles, There Is A Lid for Every Pot: A Dating Guide for Single Professionals. What is next for your brand/business in 2017? My goal this year is to match 100 singles. I also plan to expand my brand beyond the Atlanta area. Hello to all my Glambitious ladies! My name is Stacey J. aka The Social Enthusiast aka The Inspirational Rockstar! Professionally I am one of the Associate Producers for the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, I have my own radio show “The Inspirational Lifestyle” on www.worldstarhitradio.com, I am the Founder of The LIVE365 Empowerment Network and President of Stacey J. Enterprise! Whew I know I know that was a mouthful! Most time when we describe ourselves personally we tend to mention that we are a mother, a business woman, a student blah blah blah. Not to discredit those things because I am a mother and a business woman however I believe when we are asked “tell me a little bit about yourself” we normally go with the formalities of what’s common. So, I’m going to do things a little different this time. Can I be honest with you all? Stacey J. is silly, animated, quite funny, cry when watching some movies and commercials, passionate, loves horror movies and inspirational books (I know those 2 don’t go together). I like to travel, I’m afraid of heights, I love to talk, I’m spontaneous, I love to inspire and oh and I absolutely LOVE to laugh! That’s a brief overview but of course there’s more to this 5 foot 2 woman. What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? There are times in your life where you ask yourself…what is my purpose? You look back on your life and sometimes realize you’ve been doing something that you had no real interest in. Maybe your parents instilled that a certain professional would be best, maybe you had a child and needed to provide for your family or maybe you were just looking for a job and whoever was hiring you went for it. In my case I had my first child at 20 years old so reason number 2 was why I worked for many years as an Executive Assistant with a few Fortune 500 companies. What I soon came to realize is…I wasn’t satisfied or happy. Grateful yes but happy no. So, when I had the opportunity to work for myself I jumped out of faith immediately. I spent the next 10 or so years doing personal assisting for celebrities and event planning. Was it easy…nope but I enjoyed it immensely. Now there comes a time in every woman’s life where we have a moment that some call a mid-life crisis or a re-evaluation of where youare and where you want to be. I soon realized that my time as a PA had come to an end because I was no longer excited by it. I knew it was time to move on. When I turned 40 I had my coming to Jesus moment and I asked…Lord what is my purpose? That is when the Lord revealed to me that my calling was to inspire people. Now I’m thinking to myself, who me? I was optimistic and all but I didn’t feel like I was in a position to inspire anyone. I didn’t even feel like I had my life together. It wasn’t until I was talking to an old friend that I hadn’t spoken to in probably 20 years that said to me “Stacey you’ve always been optimistic and inspiring since we we’re younger”. She also mentioned that I was the reason she moved away from Chicago to start a new life. I was like WOW that’s powerful! I had to stop and think about it and I realized that the gift was already instilled in me. It was at that moment I decided to pursue inspirational speaking and empowerment. What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? My advice to anyone interested in empowerment is to first ask yourself is this something I really want to do. Empowerment is like ministry and a lot of times you find yourself giving more than receiving. It doesn’t matter what your background is because God sometimes uses those that have the most scars, those that have been through hell and back to inspire others. You never know how your story can be the very thing that saves someone’s life. I would encourage educating yourself and consider doing some research before starting. Try studying other successful inspirational leaders and get a mentor. Decide in which way you want to inspire. It could be writing books, doing events and seminars or speaking at schools. Whatever you decide Itshould always be organic and sincere. Know that when you are attempting to empower someone that there is a psychological element involved because you are encouraging someone to change their mindset maybe from discourage to optimistic or from stagnate to taking action. You also want to be able to know when you are unable to help someone and there may be a deeper-rooted issue that may need professional attention. Lastly, always pray for leadership skills and for Godto leads your words. Remember you’re going to be in the business of empowering people so it’s very important to make sure you as the inspirer gets empowered because as rewarding as it can be it can also be draining. You want to make sure you try to keep yourself uplifted so that you can be helpful to your clients. Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it: In any business, there will be challenges. I know I don’t like it either but it happens. For me, I love people. I love hearing their stories and learning about the dreams they want to achieve but more importantly how I can help them. One challenge for me was learning how to structure this passion and purpose into a business. What I mean is I talk all the time to people and speaking empowerment is something that rolls off me like oil on water. I would find myself just talking and talking allowing people to pick my brain and resources and wasn’t getting anything from it. Let’s be clear I still do it time to time but I’ve taken my purpose and made it into a business so I had to put some things into perspective. Sometimes I felt bad charging for speaking with people but I had to realize everyone has a gift and if people are seeking you for your knowledge or advice then you shouldn’t feel bad for getting paid to do what you love. Free all the time don’t pay them bills. What is next for your brand/business in 2017? I’m so excited about 2017!!! I’ve had to do some revamping of my business and goals for this year. This year is totally about working smarter not harder. I have some awesome events coming up, some bomb services that I’ll be offering and I will be doing a lot of collaborating and outsourcing with other passionate and professional people. One of the things I’ve come to realize is that there are so many amazing businesses that may offer similar or other services that could benefit my client and I have no problem sharing the love. If we would stop competing and work together when applicable we all could win! I was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. Soon after graduating high school I moved to Atlanta, GA for college. I graduated 2014 with a bachelor in Business Logistic Management from Clark Atlanta University. I began my professional career with Wal-Mart Logistics which relocated me to Ohio in 2014. Shortly after working with the company I realized that was not my passion and used my business school background to find an alternative. I am a strong believer that " If your dreams don't scare you, You are NOT dreaming big enough". I am a walking testimony that it is never to late to change paths or re route. What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? Growing up I was always the tallest person within my classes or friends through middle and high school. Since I was so tall and athletic, sports were just a given throughout my childhood. Although I played sports I still wanted to be able to dress cute and stylish. Shopping with my mom for heels we NEVER could find size 11 & up easy assessable within any retail stores. We always used Payless, which offers the largest size range, as a go to store. The shoes were not the current trends and I would end up settling for sneakers. I want TALL WOMEN to feel stylish and comfortable. I want young girls to not feel outcasted or confined into a box when it comes to fashion. What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? The biggest advice I can give is to GO FOR IT. Saying 'NO' is taking the easy way out, Saying 'YES' and making it happen.. now thats hard! Also research your desired filed and always network with people doing similar things. Your net worth is your network. Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it: A professional challenge I faced was leaving money to purse happiness. I personal believe that 'If you find a job you love, You'll never work a day in your life". This quote helped me realize that even though my corporate position was paying me I was losing out on family moments, exploring the world, and self growth. I was unhappy everyday going to work and the happiest when I was leaving. To solve my problems I put my two week notice in and over two years later I am running an online women shoe store and opening up a store front location in Atlanta, GA. What is next for your brand/business in 2017? By the end of February 2017 we will be opening up a store front location in Atlanta, GA (near atlantic station). We are also looking to collaborate and work with ALL brands and bloggers. How can readers connect with you online and through social media? My name is Dr. Tequilla Hill Hales and I'm a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist & owner of Hill Psychotherapeutic Services, LLC. The central goal of my work is to help people create emotional wellness and healthy relationships within their lives. What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? Upon entering college I realized how much I enjoyed learning about people through my social sciences courses. Volunteering at shelters, working with children, and doing crisis work deepened my passion for the helping professions. What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? If you desire to work with people from a systemic, collaborative and strength based way, it behooves you to seek out a COAMFTE accredited program to obtain the appropriate educational training. Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it: Learning how to let go of multitasking and fully embrace montasking. Monotasking is simply paying attention to, and completing, one task at a time. I find that I can do more creative work when operating in this way. I’ve learned to be flexible about how I do things but not why I do things. What is next for your brand/business in 2017? This year I will be offering Dating coaching to Singles. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I have taken my clinical expertise to create an interactive and solution focused approach to dating. We are enthusiastically entering into the second week of 2017 with new goals, aspirations and plans to start or expand our endeavors. Many of our timelines on all our social media accounts are proclaiming to be ready for a new start in 2017 and ready to leave 2016 in the past. The beginning of a new year is a great time to let go of any pain, worry, or confusion. As an entrepreneur, it is hard to establish good contacts. Sometimes we get burned on business deals and swear people, companies and brands off forever. There may be a bad taste left our the mouths and we may not get the true flavor of anything else because we have bad experiences haunting us and preventing us from moving forward in our endeavors effectively. When speaking of starting over, whether we want to admit it or not, if done properly, it must be done with forgiveness first. ![]() Photo credit: Sangima Lee Introduce yourself and profession to our readers:
Hello, I am Tawni S. Fears, owner of The Tawni Logues, LLC. The Tawni Logues is a boutique communications firm that was started in January 2010. I offer a variety of services including biographies, editing, resumes, book editing, mission statements, and much more. I have contributed to Rolling out Magazine, AllHipHop.com, Crème Magazine, and Atlanta Tribune. I have interviewed Big Daddy Kane, Mike Muse of President Obama’s National Finance Committee, Professor Griff of Public Enemy, super producer and songwriter Rico Love, along with others. Past and current clients include Ludacris, The Vortex, Asics, Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home, Ambassador Andrew Young, students, and startup companies. I am also a public speaker and mentor as well. I graduated from Clark Atlanta University. I am a Lithonia, GA native who also loves basketball, family, trying new restaurants, and celebrating others. What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? Writing has always been my passion. For years I ran from actively pursuing it. While working in the music industry I took a leap of faith and went for an unexpected opportunity to write for gospel artist Kierra Sheard. I will briefly share what happened: The first time I was asked to write professionally I had no idea how to compose a press release, neither did I have my own computer to get it done. I went home the night I was asked to do it with printouts to study, and plenty of apprehension. I read everything in front of me, and then began to write out something I hoped she would love. The next day I typed it up, and sent it over to my best friend for any feedback, or revisions. Once I sent it in I was told they would take submissions from other people too. At that point I felt like I wouldn't get it. I had been writing all my life, but I eventually put it to the side to focus on other things. Although in college I wanted to write for television, I still wasn't really moved to believe I would ever be a professional writer, in any capacity. My parents believed I would, I didn't. As a little girl you couldn't tell me I wouldn't do well as a writer. As an adult I talked myself out of it. I can’t even really tell you why, when I heard often from others that I had a way with words. I was eventually told that they went with what I sent in. It still took me awhile to build my confidence up. Then finally, I saw my gift and embraced it, fully. What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? Start writing about anything and everything. That will help you keep your skills sharp, and that will also help you have samples you can submit when the time comes. Network and find out who knows someone doing what you desire to do. Use social media to interact with people. Once you begin writing articles, blogs, or even doing work for others, let the world know. You are the most important component to your brand. If there are any aspiring writers or editors that are reading this please feel free to contact me. I would gladly help you. I had plenty of people that guided me on my journey. I truly believe in returning the favor. Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it: You all may be able to tell from my previous answers that I was my biggest hindrance. I had to stop focusing on even the smallest things that could go wrong, and simply follow my dream to wherever it was meant to take me. From doing that I have experienced so much joy in being able to help others with their goals and dreams. What is next for your brand/business in 2017? I am looking to do a lot more speaking engagements. I want to connect and help young people on every level. I am working on adding more services to my company that will benefit businesspeople and everyday people, alike. Tijania Goodwin is an educator, certified event planner, life coach and mentor from Philadelphia. She has been educating and mentoring students of all ages since 2005 and is currently working at Lincoln Technical Institute in Philadelphia. Tijania is a certified event planner and the owner of “Events 2 The Tee” which is an event planning company founded in 2011 but has re-launched in 2016. She attended West Chester University for her Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences with a minor in Sociology as well as Saint Joseph’s University for her Master’s Degree in Health Education with a concentration in Community Health. Tijania is a well-rounded person who enjoys living life and meeting new people. She also loves that she can be advocate for healthy living both mentally, emotionally and physically. Tijania has a passion for empowering women to be the best they can be no matter what obstacles comes their way. So while doing that, she created a women’s movement called “A Queen’s Voice: Tapping into Your Inner Self.” This movement empowers and pushes women to tap in, focus, transform and listen to their inner voice. She lives by this great quote, “Your mind is a powerful thing. When you fill it up with positive thoughts, your life will start to change. So tap in!” What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? For my event planning business, I have always had an eye for planning and coordinating things if it was at work, church or at school. I just really loved to create awesome events whether it was a birthday party, a graduation or a Youth Department workshop at my church. Meet new people and networking is everything in this business. Being social has really helped me in this journey that I have taken to become an event planner. Once I had completed so many events, I decided that I would just go ahead and start my own business. I discussed it over with some family and my best friend and they told me to just go for it. Even though life happened and I had to stop for a little bit, I still had the belief that there was still hope for my business to flourish. I have met some awesome people and I am forever grateful. I am still learning every day because trends are constantly changing. My ultimate goal is to become an international event planner. Now for my life coaching and mentoring services, I just love helping and advising people. My own family and friends always come to me with issues they may be trying to overcome or trying to figure out if they are facing a life-changing situation. I share no sides and always play mutual. Even though I am coaching my clients, it is still a learning experience for me as well. I take this very seriously because lives are being changed through every person I come in contact with. I love what I do and have a PASSION for it! What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? The advice I would give to someone is be willing to step outside your comfort zone to accomplish the goals you set for yourself. Life is full of trials and tribulations. You want to be that person who overcomes obstacles by tackling them in FAITH instead of tiptoeing around them in FEAR. Figure out your worth and know that all things are possible especially when you believe in yourself! Networking is also important. Relationships are the catalyst for success. People do business with those they like and trust. Serve as a resource to help others including yourself succeed. Lastly learning how to take creative criticism played a part in this as well. Take every criticism and apply it to your business because it will make the next event or life coaching session to the next level! Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it: A professional challenge I have had was when I decided to do event planning not just as “something to do because I liked it” but as an actual business. It was like an on-boarding professional challenge. I knew that in order for me to be a successful planner I needed to get certified, quickly understand trends and adapt to a new culture and new people. I had to increase my awareness about the business and what it entails. This required continuing research on how to build a big and better brand for myself. I also had to accept change. I knew that all what it takes to succeed in any new situation is a matter of learning new ways of working and most importantly, letting go of old ones even if they’ve driven your career success up until now. What is next for your brand/business in 2017? I am currently creating my websites for both my event planning business and life coaching/ mentoring services. I am also in the process of creating a male version of “A Queen’s Voice” platform entitled “Discovering the Alpha Male: I am King.” We want to launch our first all-male empowerment/networking event July of 2017 in Atlanta! So not only am I doing events and providing services for my clients, but I am also doing events for myself to empower others! 2017 is going to be great so stay tuned! What inspired you to pursue this area of interest? I always had a passion working with children. However, I was witnessing odd activity within our young girls. Knowing that they don't have any interest in role models anymore. If they did it wasn't quite your ideal role model in the industry. Transitioning their minds into positivity, being classy and letting them know it's okay to be successful in life is my goal. Also, I was the first in my family generation to accomplish many things in life to define that you don't have to be the property of your environment. What advice would you share with those interested in a similar pursuit? Make sure that you are passionate and willing to take whatever comes your way. It isn't easy at all. Just make sure you always stay prayed up and take time out to yourself. Discuss a professional challenge and how you overcame it: When storms come my way I usually slow down and analyze what signal it's trying to give me. Pain has always given me strength to press forward. However, being humble and genuine is always a blessing too. What is next for your brand/business in 2017? We are in the process of expanding our youth program. Our girls in the program and going to take a lot more leardership by being the face of the program itself. Our website and marketing is going to rise so that our youth can be heard and noticed. We will also provide our services online even if you aren't in Akron, OH where we are located at.
